The Whole Tooth

Technology

Technology enhances our lives in so many ways, and it’s also true in dentistry. We invest in leading-edge dental technology because it enhances your comfort, improves our efficiency, and helps us deliver more positive long-term outcomes.

Please take a few minutes to browse through some of the great technology we use, and don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions or want to schedule an appointment.

Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays are necessary to accurately diagnose conditions like cavities and gum disease and treat them appropriately. Without x-rays, we can’t see inside your teeth or under your gums where these problems tend to develop.

At The Whole Tooth, we use low-dose digital x-rays. Compared to traditional film x-rays, digital x-rays reduce your radiation exposure by as much as 80 percent. We only take x-rays as needed and always explain why we recommend them.

We can also share digital x-ray images with you on your chairside monitor. Our dentists can zoom in on a specific area or rotate the image to point out a problem to show you why they recommend treatment. This information helps you understand your oral health needs and empowers you to make a confident treatment decision.

VELScope

An important part of every dental exam is an oral cancer screening. This is a painless, non-invasive process, and it is crucial, given the high rate at which oral cancer is being diagnosed.

An oral cancer screening begins with an evaluation of the soft tissue areas of your mouth as well as your jaw and neck for any abnormal growths. To enhance our screenings, we use VELScope technology that shows us a wide range of abnormalities. Using VELScope, our dentists can typically see anomalies long before they would be apparent with a visual examination.

Early detection is the key to successful outcomes with oral cancer, and VELScope allows us to help our patients stay a step ahead of the disease.

Intraoral Cameras

Ever wonder what your dentist sees when they do a visual examination? Using intraoral cameras, we can show you!

These small handheld digital cameras take real-time images of your mouth as our Dunwoody dentist performs your exam. You will see everything they see in great detail, which helps you better understand your dental needs. Knowledge is power, and this is especially true in dentistry, where it’s key to helping you make informed decisions about your treatment.

Nitrous Oxide

It’s crucial to our dental team that you have a pleasant and comfortable experience when you are visiting us. In some cases, that means offering sedation dentistry with nitrous oxide to smooth out the bumps and help you relax.

Also called laughing gas, nitrous oxide offers gentle, soothing sedation that comforts you but won’t put you to sleep. You remain fully conscious as you inhale the gas through a small nasal mask, yet you will feel very dreamy and unconcerned about the activity around you.

Anyone can benefit from nitrous oxide, including children. You don’t need to be having a major procedure to get nitrous, either. Some patients opt for nitrous during their teeth cleanings just so that they can have the most comfortable experience possible.

One of the many benefits of choosing nitrous oxide is that you won’t experience any drowsy side effects and can drive yourself home safely from your appointment.

Laser Dentistry

Laser dentistry makes so many aspects of dental care more comfortable and efficient. Using dental lasers, we can treat periodontal disease painlessly and with less bleeding and faster recovery. Diode lasers also treat tooth sensitivity, stop cold sores and even prevent them from reoccurring. Laser dentistry also helps us recontour gum tissue with a high degree of accuracy to eliminate a “gummy” smile.

Electric Handpieces

Dental anxiety is a real thing, and we do everything we can to make your appointments comfortable and stress-free. Using leading-edge technology like electric handpieces, we eliminate some of the most common anxiety triggers in dentistry.

Many patients don’t like the vibrations and high-pitched whining sound of an air-driven dental drill. We eliminate this trigger using electric handpieces that don’t produce either sensation and make for a more comfortable dental experience overall.

Rotary Endodontics

A lot has improved in dentistry over the years, even root canals! While it isn’t true that they are a painful procedure, we invest in technology that makes them even more efficient and comfortable.

In the past, dentists had to clear away a root infection using manual steel files. This was a time-consuming process, but all that has changed.

Today we use rotary endodontics that eliminates the need for the manual process. From a clinical perspective, rotary endodontics help ensure that we remove every trace of infection from the tooth.

You won’t experience any uncomfortable sensations, and you may be surprised at how quickly we can complete your root canal. Many patients who have experienced a root canal with rotary endodontics say it was the most comfortable they have ever had!

TVs in Treatment Rooms

We understand that there are many places you would probably rather be than sitting in a dental chair, so we do whatever we can to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Distraction can work wonders, and TVs in all our treatment rooms give you a pleasant escape from what’s happening around you.
