Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental anxiety is extremely common, so the first thing you should know is that it’s okay to be nervous. We have worked with many anxious patients over the years who have learned to overcome their fears and experience better oral health as a result.

If you need some help getting to that point, we are pleased to offer sedation dentistry at our Dunwoody dental office.

Nitrous Oxide for Gentle Relaxation

Most people have heard of nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas. What they may not know is that it is an extremely effective type of dental sedation that offers short-term relief during your dental procedure. Nitrous oxide is so mild and gentle that it’s even perfect for children who need help relaxing while we treat them.

One reason nitrous oxide is so popular is that it won’t slow you down for the rest of your day. The calming effects of nitrous last only as long as we administer the gas, and when we stop, the effects dissipate quickly.

Oral Sedation to Calm Your Anxiety

If you’re very anxious and nitrous oxide alone isn’t enough, we can also prescribe a sedative that you take about an hour before your appointment. You will arrive at our Dunwoody dental office feeling calm and relaxed, and the soothing feelings will last throughout your appointment and beyond.

Because the sedative stays in your system longer than nitrous, you will need a driver to get you safely to and from your appointment.

Is Dental Anxiety Holding You Back?

If you have dental anxiety, we are here to help you. Please call our Dunwoody dental office to schedule an appointment and let us know if you would be interested in sedation dentistry at your next appointment.

General Dentistry

We understand that sometimes a patient just wants to come in to The Whole Tooth for a dental cleaning. However, we don't know what type of cleaning we should provide for you if we don't have a full picture of your current oral health.

An examination is required to determine what the correct treatment would be and if there are any other conditions your Dunwoody dentist should be aware of.

Customized Dental Cleanings

For example, if you aren’t experiencing any problems like cavities or gum disease, a routine teeth cleaning would be appropriate. If your dentist or hygienist finds evidence of gingivitis, they will do a thorough cleaning and be sure to remove the infection.

Some patients have advanced periodontal disease, in which case we would recommend a deep cleaning that would require two longer appointments. Also called scaling and root planing, this type of cleaning is more intensive and designed to get advanced gum disease under control.

Schedule a Dental Exam in Dunwoody, GA

When you become a patient at The Whole Tooth, we’ll build a patient record based on your past history and current dental condition. Once we understand what your needs are, we will make recommendations and develop a treatment plan to help you enjoy your healthiest smile.

Pediatric Dentistry

Absolutely! You are welcome to accompany your child for any dental appointment. As a board certified pediatric dentist in Dunwoody, Dr. Jason Bongiovi has the skill, training, and gentle approach needed to address each child’s unique needs and personality. Some children definitely do better with a parent present, while others benefit from one-on-one interaction with the dentist.

A Positive Experience for Your Child

We understand that new situations like a visit to the dental office can be challenging for kids (and parents!), but Dr. Bongiovi makes the process fun and interesting. By meeting them on their level and never pressuring them, we can help them become great dental patients in the future.

We also welcome siblings and even recommend that your child accompany a big brother or sister to their appointment to see what it’s all about. However, we do ask that siblings are not present for operative procedures like tooth fillings.

As Dr. Bongiovi works with your child, he will become familiar with their unique needs. Some kids are very apprehensive, while others climb right up into the dental chair ready for a new adventure.

Gentle Pediatric Dentistry in Dunwoody, GA

If you are looking for an experienced pediatric dentist who loves helping kids have a positive experience, please call The Whole Tooth to schedule an appointment with Dr. Bongiovi.

We care about the safety and comfort of each of our youngest patients, and that quality is reflected in our treatment of children with special health care needs.

Dr. Jason Bongiovi has been providing pediatric dentistry for children with special health care needs for over 15 years. He worked on the craniofacial team at Children’s Hospital for over ten years, where he gained extensive experience providing dentistry for children with special needs.

During this time and in the years since, Dr. Bongiovi has learned that each child is unique and may need a different approach.

We Treat Kids with Special Health Needs

Sometimes, this means having their dental treatment completed in a hospital setting. This allows our pediatric dentist to do all the treatment at once and then concentrate on building the patient up in the office after that treatment is done.

We understand that parents may have strong feelings about this recommendation. But rest assured that the decision to complete treatment in a hospital setting is a last resort and not one that we ever take lightly.

If you have a child with special needs and have questions about their dental care, please don’t hesitate to call our Dunwoody dental office to schedule an appointment.

The benefit of bringing your child to a pediatric dentist is that they are uniquely qualified and trained to work with kids who may not be receptive at first. There’s no right or wrong way for your child to act when they experience a new situation like visiting a dental office.

Relax—We’ve Got This!

It may not be your first inclination, but the best thing you can do is provide gentle reassurance for your child and let Dr. Bongiovi do what he’s trained to do. The goal is to help kids become great dental patients for life, starting with their first visit.

It’s important that we always end children’s visits to our Dunwoody dental office on a positive note. This helps them develop confidence, and each visit builds on the success of the one before it.

We will never push your child just to get something done. Sometimes it’s better to do a little less in one appointment, knowing that we'll get more done the next time they come in.
