General Dentistry

At The Whole Tooth, we love welcoming patients of all ages to our extended dental family! We offer comprehensive general dentistry in a friendly, welcoming environment so that we can inspire you to a healthy, problem-free smile.

We understand that many people don't like dental visits, but we know that the dentist's office doesn't have to be a stuffy, serious place that you dread visiting every six months.

Here at The Whole Tooth, we offer a warm, positive environment that you can actually look forward to visiting. We know because we’ve been providing this kind of experience for our patients for 15 years!

What We Provide

The Whole Tooth is a general dental office that serves patients of all ages. Dr. Jason Bongiovi is a board-certified pediatric dentist and has been treating children for 15 years, and Dr. Ashley Starnes is a general dentist who treats their parents.

Everyone on our dental team, from our dentists and hygienists to our front office staff, is here to provide your family with a comfortable, pleasant experience.

We're pleased to offer an array of dental services customized for the smallest smiles in your family to the most senior:

  • Exams and teeth cleanings
  • Tooth-colored fillings
  • Dental crowns and bridges
  • TMJ and bruxism treatment
  • Gum disease treatment
  • Emergency dentistry
  • Root canals
  • Tooth extractions

You might expect a dental office that offers this high standard of care would be formal and stuffy, but it's anything but! We take dentistry seriously but not ourselves and know there's always time in the day to share a laugh or personal story with our patients.

Preventive Dentistry Today for Healthy Smiles Tomorrow

Prevention is at the heart of everything we do here at The Whole Tooth. It's easy, and it can make the difference between a healthy smile and ongoing problems like gum disease and cavities. Our dentists in Dunwoody encourage our patients to schedule their dental exams and teeth cleanings every six months.

We can always address problems as they arise, but it is much easier on you and your oral health if they don’t occur in the first place.

For children, prevention includes age-appropriate treatments such as fluoride application and dental sealants in addition to routine exams and hygiene appointments.

A Dental Practice Committed to Your Comfort

Our dental practice is built on a commitment to your comfort and your feelings of safety and well-being. We are all invested in your oral health and know that the best way to help you maintain it is by being open and honest and never taking ourselves too seriously.

We Are Excited to Meet Your Family!

Dr. Bongiovi and Dr. Starnes would love to welcome your family and show you how we can change your perception of dentistry for the better!

Please get started by calling our Dunwoody dental office, and a helpful member of our team will be happy to assist you.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that sometimes a patient just wants to come in to The Whole Tooth for a dental cleaning. However, we don't know what type of cleaning we should provide for you if we don't have a full picture of your current oral health.

An examination is required to determine what the correct treatment would be and if there are any other conditions your Dunwoody dentist should be aware of.

Customized Dental Cleanings

For example, if you aren’t experiencing any problems like cavities or gum disease, a routine teeth cleaning would be appropriate. If your dentist or hygienist finds evidence of gingivitis, they will do a thorough cleaning and be sure to remove the infection.

Some patients have advanced periodontal disease, in which case we would recommend a deep cleaning that would require two longer appointments. Also called scaling and root planing, this type of cleaning is more intensive and designed to get advanced gum disease under control.

General Dentistry Technology

Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays are necessary to accurately diagnose conditions like cavities and gum disease and treat them appropriately. Without x-rays, we can’t see inside your teeth or under your gums where these problems tend to develop.

At The Whole Tooth, we use low-dose digital x-rays. Compared to traditional film x-rays, digital x-rays reduce your radiation exposure by as much as 80 percent. We only take x-rays as needed and always explain why we recommend them.

We can also share digital x-ray images with you on your chairside monitor. Our dentists can zoom in on a specific area or rotate the image to point out a problem to show you why they recommend treatment. This information helps you understand your oral health needs and empowers you to make a confident treatment decision.

Rotary Endodontics

A lot has improved in dentistry over the years, even root canals! While it isn’t true that they are a painful procedure, we invest in technology that makes them even more efficient and comfortable.

In the past, dentists had to clear away a root infection using manual steel files. This was a time-consuming process, but all that has changed.

Today we use rotary endodontics that eliminates the need for the manual process. From a clinical perspective, rotary endodontics help ensure that we remove every trace of infection from the tooth.

You won’t experience any uncomfortable sensations, and you may be surprised at how quickly we can complete your root canal. Many patients who have experienced a root canal with rotary endodontics say it was the most comfortable they have ever had!
